The All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The Situation: A complex trough of low pressure with numerous centres affects much of the country. Over the far south a
ridge should develop during the day.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA and BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA:
A period of widespread rain with northerlies then rain breaking to showers and fine periods from the west with winds
turning to gusty westerlies.
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI
and MANAWATU: Rain at times with northerlies until early afternoon. Heavy falls expected about northern slopes of Mount
Taranaki. Conditions then turning showery with strong gusty westerlies developing.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Brief rain at times then from Hawkes Bay northward skies breaking towards evening.
Northerlies turning westerly later. About Wairarapa southerlies developing and colder with southerlies slowly spreading
north this evening.
WELLINGTON: Gusty northerlies easing this morning. Skies cloudy with rain at times then showery from evening with solder
southerlies developing.
NELSON: Rain at times with heavy falls about the ranges. Northerlies turning westerly later.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain clearing from Fiordland and much of Westland by mid afternoon but further north
rain persisting. A few heavy falls about Buller and northern Westland. Southerlies developing in the south, elsewhere
northerlies switching to the west.
MARLBOROUGH: Gusty northwest winds easing this afternoon then colder southerlies developing. Rain easing to showers
later.
CANTERBURY: Widespread rain this morning. Rain turning to snow and lowering to 3-400 metres about south and mid
Canterbury during the afternoon and evening. Heavy falls likely above 800 metres. Southerly winds gradually prevailing.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain easing to showers this morning. Snow expected above
300 metres for a time. Southerlies becoming general this morning.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A cloudy day. Rain setting in this afternoon. Strong gusty northwesterlies.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Showers in may North Island areas. Mostly fine conditions along the South Island west coast.
Clearing skies from Southland to South Canterbury but further north showers persisting. At the Chathams further rain.
