The subject of disaster risk reduction topped the agenda again as General Assembly President Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser continued his official visit to Japan by meeting with senior Government officials in Tokyo.
During a meeting with Takahiro Yokomichi, the Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, Mr. Al-Nasser discussed reconstruction efforts in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that struck the country’s east in March.
The two officials also discussed disaster risk reduction, particularly regarding climate change, and this subject was also taken up during a meeting today between Mr. Al-Nasser and Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba.
In that meeting Mr. Al-Nasser outlined the focus areas of the current General Assembly session, which include nuclear disarmament and safety and United Nations reform.
