Report on Burma's 2200 Political Prisoners
Press Release: Terry Evans
1 February 2011
The attached report, "Release Over 2200 Political Prisoners NOW!" was completed in January 2011 by twelve groups working to promote democracy, human rights and national reconciliation inside Burma. The authors face the threat of arrest and imprisonment, simply for researching and writing this report in Burma.
For this reason, Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) felt it vital to translate the report from Burmese to English, and release it internationally. The report details the situation of Burma's more than 2200 political prisoners languishing behind bars. Not only does the report highlight the political prisoner situation, but it goes further, emphasising the importance role Burma's political prisoners can play in securing a free and democratic future for Burma.
