Assistant Secretary Valenzuela's Travel To Chile
Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Arturo A. Valenzuela is in Santiago, Chile, on January 11 to 12 for meetings with Chilean government officials and political leaders. President Michelle Bachelet will receive him on January 12, and he will have separate meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariano Fernandez and Minister of Finance Andrés Velasco. He will also meet with presidential candidates Eduardo Frei and Sebastián Piñera and other political leaders during his visit.
Assistant Secretary Valenzuela will also sign on behalf of the United States a new extradition treaty between the United States and Chile, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding on Development Cooperation Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of Chile.
