Fiji Dollar Appreciates Against US Dollar
Jul 25, 2008 - The weakening of the U S dollar has made business in Fiji more attractive. The message was relayed by the United States Commercial Counselor for Australia and New Zealand Mr David Murphy.
It has been noted that when the value of the Fiji $ appreciates, we end up paying less for imported goods.
"Products from the United States would become cheaper as Fiji's dollar becomes stronger," said Mr Murphy.
Mr Murphy adds that opportunities for Fijian businesses could range from different sectors and one such sector was franchising businesses.
Another possible benefit to exports of a higher-valued dollar is the fact that imports should be cheaper, which means that companies in Fiji should be able to make capital improvements more cost-effectively which improve productivity.
This is a better time for Fiji to explore the American market so that it can benefit from its cheaper imports.
