Niue curious about potential Matavai buyers
The Niue government says it wants to find out who are the potential buyers of Niue’s only resort, the Matavai.
There are claims that some followers of the so-called Vastu Shastra are intending to buy the resort and allow only its
members to stay.
Vastu Shastra seeks to harmonise the flow of energy, or prana, in buildings and architecture, and is based on Indian
sanskrit texts.
The acting premier, Fisa Pihigia, says some representatives have been staying in the resort on temporary permit visas
for five months and the government wants to find out who they are and what their agenda is.
“I am aware that there was a meeting last Friday between my officials and those who represent the company who wants to
buy the Matavai Resort. But I haven’t heard back from my officials of what is the outcome. But before they had a
meeting, I instructed them to try and get as much information from them. Because we do not know who they are and who
they represent and what their actual interest is at Matavai.”

The manager and shareholder of the Matavai, Hima Douglas, says he has received no formal offers or proposals from any
potential investors.
