Village of Biddu to Plant Olive Seedlings in Wall's Path on Monday
On Monday January 24 at 11:00 AM the community of Biddu in northwest Jerusalem will plant olive trees in the path of
Israel's Apartheid Wall. The peaceful protest, organized by Biddu's popular committee, will also be joined by
international and Israeli activists. Participants will gather at Biddu's Village Council at 11:00 AM on Monday and march
to Biddu's farmland that is being bulldozed for Wall construction.
Monday's action is yet another step in Biddu's year long struggle against the Wall. The village has resisted the
construction of the Wall on their land through non-violent protests and legal appeals. Five residents of Biddu were
killed last spring by Israeli security forces during protests against the Wall.
Despite an Israeli Supreme Court decision requiring a change in the path of the Wall in the Biddu area, Israeli
contractors continue to build the Wall on Biddu's land. Monday's tree replanting will take place on the site of recent
bulldozing of Biddu's farmland and olive trees. Bulldozing in Biddu was stopped over the last week due to a court
appeal. It is unclear if Israeli contractors will be working on Monday.
