In a separate controversy, Palm Beach County voters complained that their punch card ballots had the names of presidential candidates on two pages instead of one. The voters said it led to confusion and they may have voted for Reform Party candidate Patrick Buchanan when they had intended to vote for Gore.

Lawyers and advisers for the two nominees raced to Florida this morning to investigate two potentially crucial situations. In one, Democrats claim that more than 3,000 Gore votes in Palm Beach County may have been mistakenly recorded as votes for third-party candidate Patrick Buchanan because of oversized ballots whose lines were skewed.

SALEM, Ore., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Computer problems and late ballots delayed tabulation of election results in Oregon, where seven electoral votes were at stake in the presidential race between Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Al Gore.
