Thailand of the appointment of Lt-General Boonsang Niampradit, a commissioner of National Defence College, to head the
UN peace-keeping force in East Timor.
2) International team of military experts to examine security needs 12/07/00 (Sydney Morning Herald) DILI - An
international team of military experts from London's King's College has begun work in East Timor to assess the security
needs of the world's newest nation.
3) Delay in the registration procedure in Timor 12/07/00 (UNHCR) GENEVA - UNHCR is delaying for at least 24 hours the
registration of East Timorese refugees in four border districts of West Timor to review procedures mainly arising out of
security concerns.

Pearl Harbor Naval Base taught water sanitation and food safety classes to local restaurateurs June 12 during the team’s
humanitarian visit.

8) Timorese Demand Release Of U.S. Documents 12/07/00 (Democracy Now) DILI - Scores of East Timorese demonstrated
outside the entrance of the U.S. Mission in Dili, East Timor last week. Participants sang and lit candles along the
street in front of the American diplomatic installation in memory of the more than 200,000 East Timorese who died as a
result of the Indonesian invasion and occupation.

9) IOM resumes operations 12/07/00 (IOM) DILI - IOM has resumed operations in the Oesau are near Kupang where the
situation has returned to normal. Fighting which had erupted last week between local people and East Timorese refugees
has subsided and all roadblocks have now been lifted.
