1. In response to reftels B and C, FAS/Bogota delivered a
letter with the talking points and bio of the U.S. candidate
to members of the Colombian Committee on the Codex
Alimentarius (CCC), including Ramon-Eduardo Madrinan, CCC
Chairman, Javier Munuz, CCC member, and Blanca-Cristina
Olarte, CCC Contact point as well as the Colombian Ministry
of External Relations (MRE).
2. Since then, FAS/Bogota raised the issues of attendance at
the upcoming 31st session of the Codex Alimentarius
Commission and support for the U.S. candidate with the MRE
and CCC members numerous times. MRE and CCC members
informally told FAS/Bogota that while decisions on who will
attend for the GOC and whether the GOC will support the U.S.
candidate have not officially been made, the GOC does intend
to send a representative and it appears likely that the GOC
will support the U.S. candidate.
3. In addition, FAS will provide CCC members with a copy of
a June 6 letter and attachment from the office of the U.S.
Secretary of Agriculture to the Colombian Minister of
Agriculture and Rural Development requesting support for the
U.S. candidate.
