SUBJECT: Latvia to decide in January on Committee for Elimination of
Racial Discrimination

1. We reported ref B that Latvia would make a decision on whom to
support for the Committee on the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination closer to the Jan. 17 date of the election. We
followed up with the MFA, who confirmed that Latvia will make its
decision the week of January 7, following the holiday break in
Latvia.
2. Comment: Given the candidates running, we don't anticipate any
difficulty in securing Latvian support for Mr. Prosper.
