On August 3, Post delivered REF B demarche to the Argentine
MFA's Directorate General of International Organizations
(DIOIN) via diplomatic note. Per Ref A request, POLOFF on
September 12 followed up with the DIOIN's Martin Romero, who
said the GOA was still considering candidates and conferring
with colleagues in the Directorate General for Human Rights
(DGHR). He stated that the MFA would likely make a decision
by the end of September. Later that day, poloff met and
raised the issue with Counselor Federico Villegas Beltran,
DGHR Director. He said he would recommend supporting U.S.
candidate Gaer, but that DIOIN would make the ultimate
decision. Post will continue to follow-up with the MFA on
the matter.
