SUBJECT: LATVIAN PARLIAMENT APPROVES EXTRADITION TREATY
Ref: Riga 310
On May 24, the Latvian Saeima voted 78-0 to approve the US-Latvia
extradition treaty signed in December 2005. This was the second,
and final, vote required in Parliament. The legislation will go to
President Vike-Freiberga for her signature, which is expected.
Following constitutional requirements, Latvia will legally be ready
to exchange instruments of ratification by the middle of June,
although they will likely wait for US Senate action before preparing
the formal documents.
