SUBJECT: CANADA: RESPONSE TO DEMARCHE ON UN DEMOCRACY FUND

1. (U) Poloff discussed reftel with Jessica Blitt, Senior
Policy Advisor at Foreign Affairs Canada, on June 1. Blitt
indicated that she was in contact with the GoC's UN mission
in New York, but that no decision had been made on whether
Canada would co-sign the proposed letter to the UNSYG on the
need to immediately establish the UN Democracy Fund.
2. (U) Blitt advised poloff that she would continue to
coordinate with New York on this issue, and would notify us
when a decision had been reached.
