A brief cold snap to end the week
An unseasonably cold southwest change is expected across the South Island on Thursday and the North Island on Friday. Media and Communication meteorologist Daniel Corbett commented "This cold snap is late in the season and will have some bite, bringing snow to some of the South Island high country and overnight frosts in places. Mercifully, we expect it to be short."
"Perhaps the biggest impact of this cold snap is frost", Corbett went on to say. "The places most at risk are inland parts of both the North and South Islands, overnight Friday." On Saturday, a northwesterly is expected to spread quickly across the South Island, warming things up considerably, with daytime highs in eastern places getting easily into the 20s. Warm and windy weather is likely in many places on Sunday.
