Acronis Provides Data Backup and Disaster Recovery for VMware vCloud Director
Sydney, 10 February 2011 — Acronis, a leading provider of easy-to-use backup, recovery and security solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, today announced that Acronis® Backup and Recovery™10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition, the company’s backup and recovery solution for virtual environments, is one of a group of products to offer data backup and disaster recovery services for VMware vCloud Director.
The solution integrates with VMware vCloud Director and facilitates backup from the cloud to physical, virtual or other cloud environments. In addition, it provides a solution to the problem of migrating between mixed environments (e.g., physical to virtual, virtual to cloud, cloud to physical, etc.). Acronis offers the flexibility to allow either the end-user or a vCloud service provider to manage data backups across environments. By providing partners with a fully tested solution, including step-by-step instructions and information on Acronis’ knowledgebase, Acronis will be one of the first to support VMware vCloud® Director.
Bill Shelton, senior director, cloud computing, VMware, said, “VMware vCloud® Director is the premier solution to allow customers to build and manage private and hybrid clouds. The ability to protect this environment with solutions like Acronis provides even more value to customers. Service providers and enterprises can turn to VMware and Acronis channel partners to purchase and deploy this solution together”
Simon Howe, country manager, Australia & New Zealand, said, “The ability to provide disaster recovery in the cloud is an exciting new capability that will help to drive the further market adoption of VMware vCloud® Director and the cloud industry in general. We’re pleased to be building on our already strong relationship with VMware by being one of the first vendors to support DR for VMware vCloud Director. As cloud providers help customers manage mission critical applications in private or hybrid clouds using VMware vCloud Director, the ability to manage data backup and disaster recovery in these environments will become even more critical.”
Acronis, a VMware Technical Alliance Partner (TAP) program member, supports a variety of VMware platforms and is part of the VMware Ready™ Data Protection certification program.
