Media Alert: RSA announces Online Fraud Report highlights for December 2007 and January 2008 plus new RSA FraudAction Anti-Phishing Service free trial offer
Auckland, New Zealand - February 20, 2008 – RSA, The Security Division of EMC, today released the highlights from its online fraud reports for December 2007 and January 2008.
In January 2008, the RSA Anti-Fraud Command Centre (AFCC) detected several phishing attacks that relied on Storm bots as proxies. The domains used for the attacks were both quite reliable and crafted in an identical format for attacks against various banks, particularly against numerous leading UK banks.
December 2007’s highlight also featured the use of proxy servers but was the emergence of new “Rock-like” phishing attacks. In addition to recent increased activity from the Rock Phish group itself, RSA detected and shut down many proxy-based attacks using a new “Rock-like” phishing infrastructure.
Over the past two months, Australian banking brands have represented five and three percent of the total global financial institutions attacked by phishing respectively.
The two reports also cover some statistics generated by RSA’s AFCC including a breakdown of global banking brands that experienced phishing attacks by country, the number of brands attacked per month and the top hosting countries.
In addition, RSA has just launched a limited trial offer for their RSA FraudAction Anti-Phishing Service - consisting of three free shut downs of fraudulent sites targeting your company. For more information and to register for the free trial offer please visit http://anzrsa.com.au/afcc_signup/enfst
