Maxnet tackles changing ISP market with Data Centre development
Maxnet is leading the way in Data Centre services after having committed significant investment in building one of the largest Internet Data Centre's (IDC's) in New Zealand.
The company has recently invested in excess of half a million dollars in power system upgrades. Brett Herkt, Maxnet Managing Director says, "Our Data Centre now has the capacity for 200 racks and with our current growth rate we will fill the facility within a year. To keep up with demand we have recently secured additional space to increase our capacity by another third.”
Maxnet's Data Centre growth is a direct reflection of their shift in focus to a 'mission critical' internet service provider over the past six months. Says Herkt, Our mission critical focus has proved a competitive advantage over ISPs who try and run a mass market consumer business alongside dedicated business services. An example is our development of a 'high availability' colocation room which has separate physical access and very high levels of redundancy and change control".
It is one of the few facilities available in New Zealand that can accommodate the substantial demands of a blade server environment. Herkt notes “we have recently won the colocation contract for a major financial services company due to launch a new product to market in the coming months. The organisation’s IT provider surveyed all the major Data Centre's in Auckland and short-listed just two capable of supporting their preferred blade server environment.”
Herkt puts Maxnet's excellent rate of growth down to a range of factors;
- Investment in a true Tier One Data Centre
- Specialisation in 'mission critical' services
- A complimentary range of ISP services
- Development of a range of 'value add' services
