The Big Chill – Book and Launch
The great snowfall of June 2006 was the worst Timaru and other parts of Canterbury had experienced for half a century.
But people in need were overwhelmed by the generosity of their friends and neighbours. The community rose to the challenge. Families moved in with friends who still had power on. Motels made their beds available. Four-wheel drive clubs provided their vehicles, and businesses provided goods and services free of charge.
The Big Chill (see info attached) is a magnificent visual record of the great snowfall with most of the photographs supplied by the citizens of Canterbury.
A special thank you launch is being held on Tuesday 8th August at 7pm at the Timaru Library. Invited guests include all photographers whose work is included in The Big Chill, District Councillors and all who played a part in the rescue efforts. The Mayor of Timaru, Janie Annear will be launching the book.
