Community Groups Concerned as ERMA Cancels Meeting
Communty Groups are disappointed that ERMA has cancelled a meeting that would have kept the public informed about the GM Maize contamination being investigated, as well as allowed questions about the recent approval for yet more GE cows, despite major ethical and economic concerns.
GE Free NZ in food and environment are also alarmed that ERMA still has no formal protocol to notify Local Authorities of contamination events despite repeated approaches from Northland and other regional bodies. The major issues that were to be discussed at the meeting are urgent and ERMA will need to move quickly and with openness to ensure the public do not lose all confidence in them.
