Contact (09) 358 4105 or 0508 GE FREE (Hosted by the Auckland GE Free Coalition)
As part of the nationwide tour, this empowering and interactive presentation is to encourage the people of Aotearoa to
take responsibility for our wellbeing: people, animals and our land. To educate on what action we can take about the
genetic engineering of our food and agriculture, to preserve our identity and keep us GE FREE!
The recently published report by the Bioethics Council shows once again that no government agency will effectively stop
the release of GE organisms into the environment and the food chain. Only if the the people of Aotearoa stand together
against GE can we protect our unique land, animals, biodiversity, economy and future wellbeing.
UPCOMING EVENT:

Background information on the GE-Free Action Roadshow:
We want the same thing as the majority of New Zealanders - no GE in our food and environment. We need to take back
control of our food chain from corporate hands, and take responsibility for living in a sustainable way.
We are winning this campaign! Globally, the biotech industry is in retreat. Consumer resistance to GE foods remains
strong. And now is the time to send a clear message that NZ is no place for GE.
The People's Moratorium is a statement issued by groups united in the GE Free campaign which continues the ban on
releasing genetically engineered (GE) organisms in our food or environment. It came into effect on 29 October 2003 when
the New Zealand government lifted their moratorium on the release of GE into the environment.
The People's Moratorium Enforcement Agency (PMEA) was created by a group of individuals committed to protecting New
Zealand's precious GE Free status. The PMEA is a grassroots movement based on creating a force that continues to uphold
this moratorium through non-violent direct action. The PMEA seeks to empower New Zealanders by providing education,
training and research.
Direct Action is a term which is often misunderstood....In fact, Direct action refers to an action taken which directly
affects the change you wish to see. It may be something as simple as giving someone a meal, if you're working against
hunger. Since the action in itself has a direct effect, it has a power and strength. In practise, the most effective
actions are both direct and symbolic, providing a clear witness to your beliefs. We support and promote nonviolent
direct action..This means taking action to directly effect the changes we wish to see using non-violent means.
The time to engage in non-violent direct action against GE food and GE crops is now! We plan to provide GE-Free people
and groups with the information, networking, skills and support that will be of most interest and use to them in their
local area and where they are at with the GE-Free campaign...
