Media Release: GE free road show set to launch from Nelson July 6th.
On Tuesday July 6th the GE free road show will launch from Nelson to travel the length and breadth of Aotearoa/New
Zealand promoting non-violet direct action as the main tool kiwis have left in achieving a GE Free New Zealand.
“We are out to put the final nail in the coffin of GE. We are winning this campaign both nationally and internationally.
Now is the time to use our power to keep our beautiful land and our food free of GE forever. We are not giving up any
time soon!,” says Lenka Rochford, Peoples Moratorium Enforcement Agency (PMEA) spokesperson and one of the four women
who will be traveling with the road show.
“We have no faith in the government to keep us safe from GE contamination, as is evident by the recent planting of
estimated 22,000 contaminated corn plants. However the people don’t need the government to keep Aotearoa GE free, we can
take direct action to stop the contamination.”
The road show will be launched dramatically from Yaza Café at 2:30pm on Tuesday 6th July. Members will be meeting with
GE free Nelson at 5:30pm and then celebrating the launch with the general public from 6pm in Yaza Café, with food,
drinks and music.
The road show consists of four women, all of whom have a background in the anti GE movement, and a dog called Rune. The
five will be travelling in a brightly coloured house truck to towns all over the country, asking people to get involved
in a direct action campaign. The road show has three aims: to educate, to network and to activate.
