Energy Efficient NZ Motor for European Appliances
Wellington Drive Technologies Ltd (NZX:WDT) (Wellington) today announced an agreement with Arçelik A.S. (Pronunciation: R-che-leck), Istanbul, Republic of Turkey.
Arçelik is a leading global manufacturer of domestic appliances with revenues of $NZ3.2 billion. The company has over $NZ1.4 billion sales in Western Europe.
Under the agreement Wellington is developing a new motor that will be manufactured by Arçelik for its own product lines. The agreement also allows Wellington to sell Arçhelik-built appliance components that use the motor.
“Arçelik’s capabilities, product range and market strength are impressive. We are pleased that they have selected our motor technology for one of their new programmes,” said Dr Ross Green, Wellington managing director.
“Together with other contracts announced recently, this agreement with Arçelik means that Wellington motors are now being designed-in to most types of premium European domestic appliances.”
The contract value and Arçelik’s intended use of the Wellington motor are confidential, although Green said that the Arçelik development was in one of the largest volume appliance categories.
Made from specialised plastics, permanent magnets and electronics, Wellington’s brushless motor design offers lower noise and longer life than conventional approaches. It also requires less than half the energy to run and can be made in virtually any shape.
