Labour Employs Latest Txting Technology

Published: Thu 29 Nov 2001 09:47 AM
Wellington Mobile internet company, Synapse Group has secured a contract to provide txtc@st™, a web based text messaging system, to the Labour Caucus.
Txtcast allows staff of the whip’s office to send text messages to all of their MPs cellphones simultaneously regardless of which network they use.
“It can be a challenging job getting an urgent message out to everyone” says Senior Labour Whip, Rick Barker. “The new system is great, the interface has been built with the user in mind. We can now send messages simultaneously to all MPs cellphones from any web browser in the world.”
Synapse Business Development Manager, Dion James says the Labour Caucus was looking for a replacement to their existing paging system; ideally they wanted to do away with their pagers and rely solely on their cellphones.
“Txtcast has achieved this by allowing MPs to receive all their messages directly on their cellphones,” says Mr James. “Not only has this made contacting MPs easier and more efficient, it has also reduced the overall costs and now MPs now carry only one device.”
Mr James says Txtcast is easy and efficient to use as it is a web based application.
“Anyone who can use the web can use Txtcast,” he says. “Using internet technology also means Txtcast can be easily adapted to meet individual businesses’ needs.”
Txtcast operates in a similar way to many email programmes. Users can create and adapt groups and frequently used numbers and messages (such as reminder – staff meeting at 3pm) can be saved. It’s also secure.
Synapse has access to over 180 cellular operators around the world so that txtcast can be run over their networks, including Telecom and Vodafone in New Zealand.
Synapse Group is a Wellington based wireless Internet company that employs nine full time staff. The company is soon to open offices in Sydney and Auckland. . An agreement for Txtcast should be signed with a British reseller by March next year and in the USA shortly after.
