CLEAR announces network upgrade for Internet users
CLEAR Communications today announced an upgrade to its Internet infrastructure in a move towards a Next Generation Network.
New switching equipment has been installed to enable CLEAR to more efficiently handle IP (Internet Protocol) - such as dial-up Internet access - traffic.
The new equipment handles traffic as digital packets, unlike the traditional voice switches on CLEAR's network, optimising data call routing and processing.
ZFREE users will be the first Internet customers to be transferred onto the new network configuration and ZFREE users in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch will be required to change their dial-up numbers as a result.
CLEAR Net traffic will also be transferred to the new equipment over the next few months.
CLEAR's Internet Access and eMarketing Business Unit Manager Lindsay Cowley says the network upgrade enables CLEAR to continue to provide free Internet access through ZFREE, while enhancing other CLEAR services.
As a consequence of moving towards a Next Generation Network, the reopening of new ZFREE user registrations will be evaluated over the next few months.
In the meantime, existing ZFREE users in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch can find their new dial-up access numbers at www.zfree.co.nz. Free telephone help during the transition is available on 0508 900 901.
