gen-i cooks up another implementation –
with leading food manufacturer Goodman Fielder
AUCKLAND – February 15, 2001 – The Infrastructure team from leading Internet Integrator, gen-i limited, today announced
it has implemented a major server replacement project with Goodman Fielder Milling and Baking NZ Ltd.
The project has seen gen-i supply and implement six HP class UNIX servers throughout sites around the North Island from
Auckland to Palmerston North and redeploy two high performance/high capacity K class application servers to other sites.
Further, greater bandwidth capabilities were addressed through implementing ethernet switches at each site to maximise
the performance gains achieved with the deployment of each server.
“Business growth had placed increased demands on our existing systems and we needed to review our networking and
hardware infrastructure in order to maintain throughput and customer service levels,” says Jeremy Marshall, IT Manager
Goodman Fielder Milling and Baking NZ Ltd.
“The servers run an in-house developed order processing and distribution application and support users at 13
manufacturing sites located throughout the country. A decision was made to replace production critical servers in order
to support increased throughput and address capacity and performance issues with older equipment.”
“The key business driver for the server upgrade was to increase application performance as the existing servers at each
site were no longer coping with the processing load,” says Peter Harkess, Corporate Account Manager for gen-i limited.
“Our excellent relationship with HP, combined with our experience in the deployment of High Availability HP servers and
knowledge of Goodman Fielder Milling and Baking’s IT environment, were critical factors in the success of this project.”
gen-i’s Infrastructure team assumed deployment of the project, with its FieldForce group providing ongoing support
during implementation.
gen-i has already supplied services to Goodman Fielder Milling and Baking, such as HP K class servers and redeploying
the existing servers based on processing requirements at each site. It also deployed the Windows NT infrastructure that
Goodman Fielder Milling and Baking currently operates on.
