NUTRITION EXPERTS PROMOTED ON THE INTERNET
New Zealand consumers will soon have easier access to food and nutrition experts due to a new web-site.
The New Zealand Dietetic Association (NZDA) will soon enter the 21st Century with the launch of a web-site for both association members and the public on November 16th.
National president of NZDA, Jane Dodd, says the site aims to provide easier access to dietitians who are registered food and nutrition professionals.
“We want people to use the site as an information source and as a tool to find expert advice. There is so much conflicting information about diet, it is important consumers know where to find qualified professionals,” says Ms Dodd.
The web-site offers a search facility for consumers interested in dietetic advice. Named “Find a Dietitian” the facility provides a nationwide database of dietitians and their areas of practice.
“Visitors to the site can see if a dietitian is available in their region to help them plan a healthy and realistic lifestyle,” says Ms Dodd.
Academic research is also a vital part of the web-site. NZDA’s six monthly Journal contains position papers on topical issues, the most recent of these are available online. Issues such as vegetarian diet, cardiovascular health and nutrition for athletes are featured.
Ms Dodd says this resource provides media, consumers and dietitians with the most recent information on a range of topics.
“NZDA position papers are researched and peer reviewed documents which are well regarded for their scientific, professional and consumer applications.”
To visit the site go to www.dietitians.org.nz from November 16th.
