The winners of this year’s Awards for the most innovative and best designed websites were announced tonight across 11
categories.
The ANZ Bank Interactive New Zealand Awards 2000 attracted over 130 entries - 36 made it through to the finals. The
winners were chosen by panels of judges drawn from amongst New Zealand’s leading web design and internet companies.
The award winning work ranged from sites incorporating world beating design elements to one for a free, open access
library management system intended for regional users.
The chief executive of the ANZ Bank, Murray Horne said “we are proud to sponsor an event that encourages excellence
among interactive multi media companies and staff.
“The awards provide the opportunity to show case innovations and technological achievements in a complex industry that
is shaping the future. The final entries equal the world’s best when it comes to the use of the latest hardware and
software packages.”
The coveted Silicon Graphics Craft Award selected amongst all the finalists went to Wm3 by Web Media for the company’s
own site. The judges said it was already world renowned, and listed as such by a leading United States web designer.
They said Wm3’s use of Flash, a web design software package, raised the bar for other designers by linking the
technology to database applications, a world first.
Overall the judges said the best web site designs caught the eye, showed imaginative use of the technology and yet
allowed users straightforward and fluid navigation around them.
Propecia, a site the judges said showed careful thought and great subtlety in promoting a treatment to reverse male hair
loss, won the Brave New World Marketing Communications Award. Export Gold was highly commended in this category for its
snowboard game delivered over the net.
The Koha library system developed by Katipo Communications of Levin won the ANZ Community/Not for Profit Award for its
grass roots response to develop an easy to use though highly practical library system.
Interactive New Zealand intends taking the winners on a roadshow around New Zealand centres. The association is
connected with the Telecommunications Association of New Zealand (TUANZ).
