New venture group delivers XML innovation ‘OBJECT-ive’
gen-i Ventures group extends XML capabilities to offer platform for JADE object oriented enterprise solutions.
AUCKLAND, Friday September 8th, 2000 – gen-i Ventures group has announced a new platform, Obj-x, in a move to merge
Internet capabilities for delivering B2C and B2B scenarios with object-oriented development. Obj-x allows new and
existing JADE clients to fully leverage the benefits of XML technology in their e-commerce solutions.
Obj-x incorporates the advantages of JADE with the power of XML, XSL and related technologies, significantly reducing
development and maintenance costs. Compatible with emerging industry standards, Obj-x offers an HTTP platform that
extends functionality and simplifies development, providing entry points for XML, HTML, Microsoft’s BizTalk and SOAP
initiatives and Open Source technology.

standing. We built the on-line registration system for the 1999 APEC conference. The largest part of New Zealand’s
export fruit inventory is stored, processed and shipped using a JADE system gen-i developed. Nearly $1B of road funding
is managed using a gen-i JADE application.”

A couple of interesting twists to Obj-x are its support for Open Source technology and JADE scripting. Obj-x provides an
entry point for the Cocoon web publishing framework (out of the Apache Project). JADEScript support also allows an
Active Server Page (ASP) model to be used with native JADE scripting. Obj-x permits JADE business logic to be delivered
in active server pages. Business rules can be modified quickly, easily and without requiring the site to be brought
down. The ASP model can be used with any connection.
