PRESS STATEMENT
National Party President John Slater announced today that National MP and Candidate Hon Katherine O'Regan will be applying for a recount of the electorate votes in the Tauranga Electorate. This application will be filed as soon as possible in order to minimise any delays.
This decision has been taken after consultation with local National Party supporters, the senior leadership of the Party and after taking legal advice.
Tauranga has significant strategic importance and the integrity of the ballot is paramount, Mr Slater said.
The National Party has asked Deputy Leader Wyatt Creech to co-ordinate its application for a recount. Mr Creech has wide and personal experience of this process as he entered Parliament as a result of an electoral petition. Mr Creech will be travelling to Tauranga today.
