Blue-Greens proposal to increase fuel taxes must be ruled out by Simon Bridges
FEBRUARY 25 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Plans by the Blue-Greens to campaign on more electric vehicle subsidies and higher fuel taxes need to be vetoed by the National Party leadership, says the New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union.
Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams says “The Blue-Greens are sticking up the middle finger to Simon Bridges’ commitment to no new taxes or hikes to petrol taxes. But this group of his own MPs want the emissions trading scheme to raise the costs of fuel. After spending all of 2018 rightly attacking Labour for introducing regressive fuel taxes, why are National now preparing their own financial assault on low-income families?”
“Helping the residents of Parnell to buy subsidised electric vehicles while slamming working families with additional taxes for older cars is horrendously regressive."
