REMUERA, AUCKLAND, September 20, 2018 – ACT Party Leader, David Seymour has generated over $50,000 for Kidsline, following Mr Seymour’s appearance on TVNZ’s Dancing with the Stars earlier this year. The donation was specifically generated from the show’s text voting revenue.
“I’m so pleased that my twerking has paid off for a charity I love. At this time mental health is topical, and Kidsline are tackling the issues in a practical way,” said Mr Seymour, a former Buddy at the service himself.
Kidsline ‘buddies’ are specially-trained teenage telephone counsellors, who take calls from New Zealand kids up to the age of 18. After hearing the news, one current Kidsline buddy responded “We are so proud of David and his dancing! He really put himself out there twerking the house down for Kidsline. We’re super grateful for all he’s done!”
Operations Manager, Rhonda Tyrrell went on to comment “We are so grateful that David chose Kidsline as his charity! We think he did an amazing job and his support means that we can continue to help Kiwi Kids when they need us”.
When asked how the donation will benefit Kidsline directly, Lifeline Executive Director, Glenda Schnell said “This money is so relevant for kids in New Zealand right now. Thanks to David’s support of Kidsline, we will be able to train 20 buddies and answer 1,200 calls from those who need the unique support of well-trained teenagers”.
Mr Seymour was one of two contestants to donate his appearance fee to his charity, increasing the total amount by around $20,000.
