Keith Ng "fact-check" is false
4 JULY 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Keith Ng must not have read our report before he published his 'fact check' on public sector wages in the NZ Herald, says the New Zealand Taxpayers' Union.
Taxpayers' Union Economist Joe Ascroft says "Keith shows that from 2009 there was little to no variation in the growth rates of incomes between the public and private sectors. He is of course correct, in fact you can read that on the graphs published in our report."
"Our concern is that the gap in earnings has grown significantly since the mid 1990s, and then proceeded to persist and only very slightly narrow in recent years. Keith's assessment confirms that slight narrowing. His 'fact-check' does not reject the fundamental claim of the report which is that the wage gap is nearly twice the level of the early 1990s."
