Winston’s immoral troughing reaches new depths
3 JULY 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director Jordan Williams responds to Rt Hon Winston Peters’ choice to claim the optional Winter Energy Payment:
“Winston Peters’ insistence on claiming this money deeply immoral, considering struggling New Zealanders are taxed to pay for it.”
“Mr Peters’ attempt to portray his greed as principle is farcical. If this was about principle, instead of self-interest, he would donate his payment to charity. Instead, he’s set to enjoy his $700 annual payment as whiskey money.”
“Remember, this is on top of Mr Peters’ $334,000 taxpayer-funded salary, plus his $18,000 pension that he also insists on claiming. He’s licking every last drop of gravy from the plate.”
Note: $700 and $18,000 are the approximate annual WEP/superannuation payment rates for couples.
