TODAY'S NUMBERS SHOW TAX RELIEF IS DUE
7 MARCH 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Responding to the release of the Government’s Financial Statements for the seven months ended 31 January 2017 showing an OBEGAL surplus of $1,145 million, compared to the HYEFU forecast surplus of $442 million, Jordan Willams, the Executive Director of the Taxpayers’ Union, says:
“These numbers show that tax relief for New Zealand families is both affordable and prudent. Thanks to average wage growth and inflation, Kiwi workers are in higher tax brackets than at any time since this Government was elected in 2008.”
“Based on these numbers, Budget 2017 can deliver tax relief this year with indexation of tax rates to stop these sneaky tax hikes as people move into higher brackets. New Zealanders should not have to wait until an election to keep more of the money they earn.”
