Gay community protests Brian Tamaki while raising funds for Kaikoura
On Sunday 4 December over 150 gay Wellingtonians and their friends attended GAYQUAKE at the San Francisco Bath House to raise funds for Kaikoura.
Over $1,000 was raised for the Red Cross earthquake appeal and Takahanga Marae in Kaikoura, which is hosting displaced families from the recent devastating earthquakes.
“With all the shakes and then Brian Tamaki spilling hatred, it was great to get together as a community and stand against his comments while raising funds for the people of Kaikoura,” says organiser Nicole Skews-Poole.
Three bands - The Klaus Vermillion Quartet, Disasteradio and HEX - played alongside speakers from the New Zealand Red Cross and the local rainbow community.
“It was a high-energy, fun night with lots of support from the local community as well as the San Francisco Bath House and the bands who donated their time.”
