Taxpayers' Union Cautiously Welcomes Chang Samkhan Grant
1 APRIL 2016
The Taxpayers’ Union is cautiously optimistic regarding the announced $6.3 million Primary Growth Partnership grant awarded to the Chang Samkhan Innovation Project.Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says:
“The Taxpayers’ Union is usually sceptical of the Government subsiding private enterprise with taxpayers’ money. But having looked over the business case for this grant, it appears that this is substantially of better value than this Government's usual corporate welfare concessions."
“While the employment opportunities and boost to tourism, are never guaranteed, we would expect Ministers to be parading this project as a model for how PGPs work and for Callahan Innovation and other institutions which make these types of commercial grants."
The Union's most recent report on corporate welfare is available at http://taxpayers.org.nz/new_kids.
