Beehive Staffers Raking in Ministerial Moola
Responding to the report that more than a third of Ministerial staff employed in the Beehive are earning over $100,000 per year, Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams says:
“The vast majority of staff in the Beehive are of a secretarial support nature. It seems extraordinary to us that Ministers are remunerating so well, and that the salaries are so top heavy."
“With more than one third of the Beehive support staff earning more than $100,000 it appears being a spin doctor or political advisor is a surefire way to the big bucks without being responsible for the decisions. As a comparison, Auckland Councillors, are paid $102,000 and arguably do a lot more.”
“We would like to know how much other people who work at Parliament cost taxpayers, but with Parliament sheltered from the Official Information Act, it is difficult to assess whether the non-governmental parties are as bad."
