Workers walk off the job at 2Cheap Cars in East Tamaki
Workers have walked off the job at 2Cheap Cars in East Tamaki over concerns about unsafe working conditions and racist
abuse from their employer.
The workers, who are car groomers for the nationwide dealership, have formed a picket line this morning outside the
company’s site at Lady Ruby Drive in East Tamaki.
They contacted the union yesterday after walking off the job.
“Our members just want to be able to go to work, do their jobs, and be treated fairly,” says Louisa Jones, EPMU national
industry organiser.
The workers have reported unfair working conditions as well as issues around safety and harassment.
“We are trying to negotiate a safe return to work with the employer,” says Louisa Jones. “We have contacted WorkSafe and
the Human Rights Commission seeking an independent mediator to assist.”
