MFAT Spend $11.4 Million on Nyc Apartment
The Taxpayers’ Union is calling on the Foreign Affairs Minister to explain how the purchase of a $11.4 million luxury New York apartment is good value for taxpayer money. Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says:
“While taxpayers wait for knee and hip operations, officials are sparing no expense for our man at the UN. This sort of spending is to be expected from FIFA and tin pot regimes not the New Zealand Government."
“$11.4 million is almost certainly more than the delegated authority of MFAT’s chief executive. Unlike the lavish spending at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment the blame lies squarely with the Minister. Mr McCully should front and explain why a luxury 279 square metre, three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the East River, is necessary.”
“If ever there was an example which shows the Government has plenty of room to cut wasteful sending this is it. It isn’t thrift, it’s theft."
