PGA President welcomes New Zealand’s ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty
President of Parliamentarians for Global Action and New Zealand MP Ross Robertson today welcomed the news that the New
Zealand Government has ratified the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) at the United Nations in New York.
“I am delighted to hear that New Zealand has followed up its highly constructive role in support of the ATT by ratifying
the agreement today,” said Ross Robertson.
“In these last few weeks of my Presidency of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), I reflect on the significant
efforts made by all of us who are members of the PGA National Group, together with so many other key stakeholders whose
efforts have brought us to this day.
“I leave Parliament confident in the knowledge that New Zealand will continue to attach great importance to the ATT, and
will also continue with the important work it has already begun to promote adherence to this vital international treaty
in the Pacific Islands and around the world,” he said.
“I am also hopeful that before I leave Parliament the required 50 nation states will have signed, so that the mechanisms
contained in the ATT for entry into force will trigger and the ATT will be recognised as an international treaty.
“PGA stands ready to continue its signature and ratification processes, working alongside state parties in pursuit of
peace, democracy and the rule of law,” said Ross Robertson.
