New Zealand to Host International Conference on Drug Reform Laws Next Year
New Zealand became a world leader in the development of innovative regulation of new Psychoactive Substances laws in
July, 2013.
With so many countries around the world acknowledging that prohibition is an ineffective policy response to the
realities of contemporary drug use, New Zealand has taken a new approach. There is an opportunity for the New Zealand
model to become the template for reform globally.
On March 20th, 2014 hosted by The Star Trust, ‘Pathway for Reform’ will offer a unique opportunity to hear firsthand how
this industry began, how it was regulated and why. Participants will also hear what the leading experts believe the
future holds and ask questions in a panel discussion MC’d by Auckland media personality, Martyn Bradbury.
‘Pathway to Reform’ will see renowned international key note Ethan Nadlemann, Executive Director of the Drug Policy
Alliance in the USA and Amanda Fielding, Chair of the Beckley Foundation in the UK discuss the process of moving from
restriction to regulation.
“Attendees will have the opportunity to engage and learn from these world-class experts on why they think that
regulating Psychoactive Substances is the right way forward and how to ensure it delivers on the promise of better
outcomes for the public, the police and the politicians,” said Grant Hall, General Manager of The STAR Trust.
“’Pathway to Reform’ will see world leaders, academics, the New Zealand Government and the general public come together
to engage with forward-thinking visionairies in the burgeoning global drug policy reform movement.”
‘Pathway to Reform’ will be held at Auckland’s Langham Hotel on Thursday, 20th March 2014
