Voting Documents Due In Letterboxes
Aucklanders will receive voting documents for the 2013 local body elections in the post from tomorrow.
Delivery is scheduled to take place between Friday 20 September and Wednesday 25 September.
That allows two weeks for forms to be filled in and returned before the recommended last day to post of Wednesday 9
October.
This will ensure documents arrive before voting closes at midday on Election Day, Saturday 12 October.
Electoral Officer Bruce Thomas urges Aucklanders not to leave their vote until the last minute and to make full use of
the Council’s website www.voteauckland.co.nz to help them make an informed decision.
“We are entering one of the most exciting and challenging periods in Auckland’s history and it is important for voters
to choose the candidates they think can make a difference in their communities,” he says.
“The website has profiles of all 470 candidates standing for mayor, governing body, local boards, DHB and licensing
trusts
“It also has key information on the voting process and how people can make sure they don’t miss out.”
Aucklanders who don’t receive voting papers by Wednesday 25 September should do the following:
Check they are enrolled by going to www.elections.org.nz or calling
0800 36 76 56.
If not, register by Friday 11 October to be able to cast a special vote.
To cast a special vote, people will need to visit the Electoral Office at 45 Queen Street, Auckland Central, one of
eight designated council service centres or one of four designated libraries (see below).
Special voting documents are also available by phoning (09) 306 0980 or 0800 922 822 and will be posted to those who
need them.
Registered voters who miss the postal deadline of Wednesday 9 October will need to place papers in the ballot box at
their nearest public library, the Electoral Office at 45 Queen Street, Auckland Central, or one of the designated
council service centres.
All voting papers have to be dropped off by the noon cut-off time on Saturday 12 October to be counted.
