Free Trade Suspended At Easter
Libertarianz Party leader Richard McGrath today labeled MPs who voted against a bill that would have legalised Easter Sunday trading as dinosaurs.
“This country is supposed to be a secular state, yet shop owners are subjected to the whims of theists and trade unionists who want to sabotage their businesses during a recession,” said Dr McGrath.
“The sponsor of this bill wanted local authorities to be able to decide whether the owners of shops would be allowed to open their doors during a Christian holiday,” he said.
“My party wants the shop owners themselves - not politicians or bureaucrats – to have total control over their opening hours. Anything else is a perversion of property rights.”
Dr McGrath said atheist, Muslim or Hindu shop owners should not be forced to observe a Christian anniversary.
