Shearer seeks community input on Mt Albert shopping centre
Upgrading Mt Albert’s shopping centre is a priority for Labour’s Mt Albert candidate David Shearer.
Today he is launching a survey of local residents and shopkeepers about their preferences for development of the
shopping centre.
David Shearer says that the condition of the shopping centre is an issue that is being raised constantly by people he
has been meeting. The survey will help him speak out on behalf of the community.
“A shopping centre is in many ways the heart of the community. I want to support community initiatives to do a thorough
redevelopment of the shopping centre.
“Many Mt Albert people have told me that they would like to see work done to upgrade the Mt Albert shopping centre and
railway station, clean up graffiti and to reinforce community safety.
“This is about better community services, cleaner and safer facilities and putting Mt Albert’s priorities first,” David
Shearer says.
The survey form is being distributed to homes and shops around Mt Albert shopping centre. Volunteers will also seek
responses from shoppers.
The survey asks:
Do you believe the shopping centre and railway station should be upgraded as a priority?
Would you support spending money to remove the power poles and put the lines underground?
Would you like to see Mt Albert Shopping Centre become a community hub with better landscaping and more cafes?
Does the shopping centre and railway station need a more visible presence of a community constable and closed circuit
television surveillance?
Do you support Auckland City Council's master plan for more apartment-style housing around the shopping centre and
railway station?
Are there other changes you would like to see to improve the shopping centre and railway station?
