Donate a dollar a glass to help provide clean water for third world children
UNICEF New Zealand is launching a drive to persuade restaurants, schools and workplaces to take part in the 2009 Tap
Project, which asks people to donate a dollar for every glass of tap water they consume when eating out or away from
home.
Dennis McKinlay, Executive Director of UNICEF NZ, says: ‘New Zealand is one of the few countries in the world blessed
with an abundance of clean water. The Tap Project is a simple way to donate a small amount to help the world’s poorest
children. Just $1 provides a child with safe drinking water for 30 days. Water is one of the cheapest and most effective
forms of aid delivery making a huge difference to health and education.
‘We’re asking restaurants, schools and workplaces throughout New Zealand to help us make this an easy process for people
who want to give money and help make a difference to thousands of children around the world less fortunate than us”,
adds McKinlay.’
Last year over 100 New Zealand restaurants took part and the contributions raised provided over 24,000 children with
clean water for 30 days.
The campaign will run for one month from 9th March to 9th April 2009.
