A photo exhibition, titled ‘Humanity in the Midst of Crisis’, which shows the cruel reality of the impact of war on
civilians around the world, will be on display for a limited time in Wellington from 29 – 31 August.
The exhibition, compiled by the International Committee of the Red Cross, helps to promote an understanding of
international humanitarian law or the ‘laws of war’.

Increasingly, civilians are targets - facing violence, loss of home, contact with family members, displacement, and lack
of access to food, water and medical facilities. Through the exhibition, featuring photographs from 1971 to 2006, and
showing situations in places such as Iraq, Timor-Leste, Sudan and Gaza, we are reminded that under international
humanitarian law such treatment of civilians is prohibited.
The series of 25 striking photos will be on display at Victoria University’s Rutherford House lobby during a
Commonwealth conference that will discuss international humanitarian law.
The exhibition is open to the public and is free of charge.
