NEWS RELEASE!!
Te Roroa Settlement Bill Opposed
The Te Roroa Settlement Bill returns to the House from the Maori Affairs Select Committee this Friday 1 June.
The Chairman of the One New Zealand Foundation Inc, Ross Baker agrees with the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon John Key when he stated on Radio New Zealand (25/5/07),
"National will be opposing the Te Roroa Settlement Bill on the basis that the proposed settlement would not be durable, in that the Crown had “cut corners” in order to reach the settlement".
The One New Zealand Foundation Inc has investigated and researched this claim for nearly 20 years and has found,
1. The claim is based on false evidence.
2. Some of the claimant's whakapapa is in doubt.
3 The sale documents have been tampered with by the Crown. A mater that is under investigation by the Ombudsman.
4. There is still a restricted file held by Archives New Zealand into this claim, that a past Minister refuses to release!!!
Mr Baker says, "There are just too many uncertainties for this Bill to proceed. There must be a full public inquiry where all the documents can be opened for public scrutiny"
