Expect a leaflet with your fruit and veges
Shoppers at Otara and Avondale markets can expect something extra with their veges this weekend, as workers continue the
campaign in Auckland against National’s No Rights employment Bill.
Union activists will be out and about talking with the public at Otara market on Saturday and Avondale market on Sunday,
and handing out information fliers on National’s Bill removing unfair dismissal rights for workers in the first 90 days
on the job.
“The response we have been getting at fleamarkets to date has been one of clear opposition to National’s plan,” said
Carol Beaumont, CTU Secretary.
“At the beginning of the campaign we wanted to make sure all New Zealanders understood that the National Party plan
affected all workers. This message appears to be getting through."
This weekend’s activities follow regular leafleting, delegate meetings and seminars, and collecting signatures for a
national postcard campaign. Auckland unionists have also been leafleting weekly at major transport hubs, leading up to a
leafleting blitz on July 20 to coincide with a rally in Parliament the same day
