Dunne’s Concerns One Of Many With Unnecessary 90 Days Employment Bill
“As time goes on many people are scrutinising National’s 90 days employment amendment Bill and finding it has many serious faults,” CTU Secretary Carol Beaumont said today.
“United Future leader Peter Dunne has identified one of the key problems with the Bill – that it will affect all workers at several stages in their lives. Some workers, such as seasonal and casual workers, could be in a constant cycle of no-rights employment,” said Carol Beaumont.
“The CTU believes that a no-rights 90 day period should not apply to any workers at all, and that the Bill needs to be scrapped.”
“Fair minded New Zealanders are not about to support the unfettered right to dismiss any group of workers. The debate on the 90 days Bill has already provoked a significant response from workers throughout the country.”
“In a tight labour market with skills and labour shortages, but with unemployment still at 3.9% and Mâori unemployment at 8.7%, let’s continue developing real solutions for increasing participation in the workforce instead of attacking workers rights.”
